This piece is so incredibly well-done, I'm not how 'worth it' it is to write the critique, but here goes!
I love the integration of colors - you've got a whole range of hues and shades, and yet it all works together seamlessly.
The lighting here is divine as well - some very bright spots, some rather shadowed, but overall a soft/muted and very smooth feel.
The dragon's pose is great, he certainly feels like a 'lord', exuding confidence and owning the area. I'm not a huge fan of the dark head or the lightning-bolt tail, but they're very impressive and well-done. My only actual critical comment about this entire piece is that the wings looks too big for the dragon - but that's it!
All in all, this is an incredible piece! I'm sure the commissioner was very happy with it
^^' Oh wow, it's so good! I'm horrible at compliments, but I really am... eh, impressed is an understatement... with him! I almost always mess up somehow with proportions. (ie, my contact picture where the sword looks like it's only a foot long or so.) I end up working so hard on detail, I forget about sizing... but you're really good at all the pieces of making wonderful artwork!
Hey it's no biggie the fact you gave a nice compliment means very well and much to me. I'm honored you like the lil piece it means a great deal to me. I do my best to try new things and learn more about perspective, anatomy, and composition, I am by no means the best but I don't think I'm half bad for being self taught. And it's encouraging to get compliments like this for me. So thanks it really means a lot, and keep up your studies and persevere, you'll get there.
Very cool painting. Looks like you spent a lot of time on this. I like the scale work very much. the face is great too. I noticed is that you gave rykaran's dragon a huge deltoid muscle on the right wing but it isn't on the left wing. The way on you have the wings spread out towards the viewer, wouldn't the muscles be visible on both wings?
eh I tried messing about with that to be honest but the membrane of the wing just kept acting up. So I kinda went with the current view as he just looked like he had a tumor for some reason. It didn't help I posed him in a 3/4ths view which made the overall pose rather difficult.
It's easy to forget that in these times with technology getting better and better. For some or even many it creates the illusion that they do not need nature anymore, they only see it when it comes to natural desaters or when are on a beach, in a forest whatever, but they often won't realize that they are nature too. The term "Nature" is very unaccurate, easily spoken I'm refering everything that lives with that, but also things like stones, rivers, mountions etc. ^^
